I teach math at a public elementary school in Somerville, Mass. The math consultant hired by the city to work with teachers on improving student performance introduced a group of us to KENKEN at a workshop. I have already noticed that some kids who normally hate math and/or do poorly in math are having a great time with KENKEN. I have a class of kids with learning disabilities who are proud of themselves for solving a 6x6 puzzle. Also, these students are very weak in basic computation, but they are learning in spite of themselves while doing KENKEN. This is a completely addictive logic puzzle. In sudoku the numbers act only as symbols; in KenKen you actually use arithmetic. There are different sizes and levels of difficulty to the puzzles, so you can keep advancing and trying harder ones. The greater the difficulty, the more satisfaction you feel from finishing.
