National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Partners with Nextoy, llc. Daily Interactive KenKen Puzzles Now Appearing on Illuminations Website
The NCTM, the world's largest organization dedicated to math education, and the popular math game and logic puzzle KenKen are partnering in the goal of making math learning fun.
You don't often hear a lot of cheering at public libraries, but in the library theater at theChappaqua Public Library, in Chappaqua, New York, cheering is quite acceptable – especially during the library's annual KenKen logic puzzle tournament. Friends and family of the contestants sit in bleacher-style seats rooting the contestants on at the end of every round of puzzles. The finals of this tournament take place on the stage in the library theater, with all the suspense and fanfare of an international chess tournament.
Robert Fuhrer, 56, of Westchester County, New York is a long-time toy and game industry executive but he is probably best known as the unofficial godfather of the brain training puzzle called KenKen®.
As president and founder of thirty-year-old Nextoy, LLC, Fuhrer often traveled abroad to spot new ideas and products ripe for export. During one of his frequent trips to Japan, he was intrigued by a popular puzzle called Kashikoku Naru (translated loosely as, the puzzle that makes you smarter) that was invented by a math teacher.
