We are proud to offer the KENKEN Classroom Program to teachers. We supply a wide selection of KENKEN puzzles to educators on a weekly basis, at no cost whatsoever.
One of the great benefits of KENKEN—and the beauty of it!—is the potential for incremental improvement of math ability. This is built right into the puzzles, based on each one’s combination of level, size, and math operations. Each person progresses at his or her own comfort level. We don’t match a puzzle size or type with a specific age or grade, because everyone learns differently.
Addition and subtraction are generally the first math skills developed in schools, so the KENKEN Classroom Program supplies puzzles in which only addition is needed, and puzzles including both addition and subtraction. By 3rd and 4th grade, students are generally ready for multiplication and division, which is why we also provide multiplication-only puzzles, and ones requiring multiplication and division.
Many teachers use Sudoku and other puzzles and games in the classroom. While they certainly have their value, KENKEN takes learning to a whole other level. Sudoku, for example, is only logic-based. (The numbers are mere placeholders which could be substituted by letters, pictures, etc.) KENKEN requires both logic and actual mathematical calculations. And students have so much fun solving the puzzles, they may not even notice how much their mental-math abilities are improving!
We continue to hear of different ways that teachers use KENKEN in the classroom: As a warm-up activity, multiplication table exercise, extra credit after a test, homework, as a take-home to encourage family math, and many more.
KENKEN began in the math classroom, and we remain committed to helping mathematics educators and students. By providing the KENKEN Classroom Program, our goal is to add some fun to the math-class experience, while introducing an innovative way to increase numeracy and calculation proficiency. Students who are stronger in mathematics have more to offer society in general, and that benefits everyone.
Because of its unique blend of education and enjoyment, KENKEN has been endorsed by organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the Math Forum at Drexel University, and MathCounts.
Purchases of toKENs help us to continue to provide the KENKEN Classroom Program at no cost to teachers everywhere.
